Fireplace and General Safety Guidelines
Posted on Feb 13th, 2025 Comments (0)

• Locate the owner-supplied fire extinguisher and make sure it is easily accessible.
• Keep a 3-foot radius from fireplace opening clear.
• Check to ensure the fireplace flue is open and create an updraft by lighting up some
rolled-up paper and pointing upward into the chimney box. If there is any smoke back
up, then the flue is NOT open. When you see the smoke being pulled up the chimney,
you have an updraft and may light the fire.
• Start with a small fire and slowly add wood. Place 2-3 logs in a staggered or crossed
formation on metal grate, then place fire starter material or a small amount of crumpled
paper on bottom beneath grate. If available, add some kindling on top, then light fire from
the bottom.
• Keep screens completely closed while the fire is burning.
• Generally speaking, these fire boxes burn most efficiently with the glass doors left open
only slightly.
• Stop adding more wood long before you are retiring for the evening, and close glass doors
completely.
• When fire is completely out the next morning, close flue to prevent heat loss.
• Completely extinguished ashes must be placed in a metal container and emptied into the
provided metal ASH BINS in front of each building. NEVER put them in the dumpsters.
NEVER place partially burned logs or ashes on the back decks or covered front entryways.
• If you are a short-term renter DO NOT remove ashes from a fireplace anytime.
• During very windy or foggy days, it is best NOT to have a fire as “downdrafts” are more
likely to occur.

PLEASE NOTE:
NO PORTABLE FIRE PITS or other heat generating objects or appliances allowed on decks
or ground floor patios -- this is a serious offense and subject to a fine.
• The ONLY grills allowed on a deck or ground floor patio are the newer UL rated electric models
Dec. 24 Holiday Update
Posted on Dec 23rd, 2024 Comments (0)
12/23/24

Afternoon Solitude Village owners,

First of all......all the best to everyone for a safe, warm and happy holiday season!

A few important updates

If you have not already skied them or heard, Sidewinder and Upper Moonshadow opened up today.   Per an email from Bruce Schmidt earlier this AM, they are hoping to open up Line Drive in the next day or two   **

If you have not already picked up the NEW Rec Center access fobs, we have them in our office.  Please give me a heads up when you will be arriving and I will have them ready for you in case I am not in

We are using the maroon, hard plastic, hanging owner passes for one more winter.  We may or may not have one xtra, and I would suggest you check all of your junk drawers, glove compartments, etc.

We will also give out 2 owner guest/overflow passes

After installing a new Jacuzzi last month, Okemo has continued with some minor renovations ( new vinyl flooring, nice long bench with storage cubbies beneath and painting) in the Rec Center.

In working with Okemo on potential other renovations, it would be very helpful for all users to carefully sign the log in sheet, with your unit # and reference how many in your family.

The Day Lodge parking area is VERY Limited, and we have to respect the signage to ensure the Day Lodge owners have their own space.

Due to the ongoing FEMA floodway mitigation efforts, the Shaws parking lot has shrunk in size........slow and steady please!

We are back to our normal winter trash ( Mondays and Fridays) and recycling ( Monday) schedule

Dust off your snow spikes & grab a ski pole when going for a walk around our community to be safe

Summit Solutions is also back with their full 7 day coverage ( generally 8am - 4:30pm)

As always, please advise with any questions, comments or suggestions.

And remember to hydrate and stretch !!!

Ludlow Electric FREE Energy Saving Kit Offer
Posted on Sep 16th, 2021 Comments (0)
Along with your recent Village of Ludlow Electric bill you would have received a flyer offering some FREE Energy Saving Kits.  One of our owners mentioned this on the September Board meeting Zoom.  He applied for one and reported that it needed to be sent to a Vermont mailing address.  Since our condos do not have mailing addresses, Michael Normlye said we could have them sent to his office for owners to pick up when in town.

In case you didn't notice the flyer or lost it, you can use this link  to get to the offer.

Launching new website
Posted on May 11th, 2021 Comments (0)
Morning to all Solitude owners,

On behalf of Michael Giersch and Mark Tolosky, the Board members who spearheaded this effort.....

We are pleased to announce that we have launched our new Solitude Village COA website!  If you are receiving this email you are already registered on the website.  However, the first time you login (your email is your username) you will have to select a password.  Select 'forgot password' and the system will send you instructions.  Good security practice is to use a unique password for each site.

Our new website is intended to provide useful information to our owners, friends and family, and renters.  Some portions of it are open to the public (like renters) and some are members only, accessed only from a member signed in with a password.  Our hope is that this will be a helpful adjunct to our Solitude Village Facebook page, which will still be the prime vehicle for message board type interactions among the members.

The website is organized across eight main pages or tabs.
1. Management - your Board, and management contacts
2. General Information - key information on the facilities and rules
3. Directories - Owner directory and Pet Registry.  The Owner directory can be viewed by name sequence or unit sequence. Owners can opt to add more information (phone, photo) beyond their email. See the FAQs.  We have populated the Pet Registry with the dogs that were already registered. Pet owners please send Micahel Normlye a photo that will be added to the Pet Registry. We'd love to see their smiling faces.  If you haven't registered a pet, please do so on the Pet Registry page.  Dogs and Cats welcome!
4. Calendar -  this will allow you to see upcoming Board meetings and will include the zoom link for the meeting.
5. COA documents - Detailed rules and regulations, Board minutes, financials, etc.
6. FAQ - hopefully many of the questions/answers that might come up
7. Useful Links - to Okemo and others
8. Contact Us - An easy way to reach key people, for questions that are not included or help on the website.

Directories, Calendar and COA Documents are member only access.   The rest are open to the public.

A little further down the home page you'll see three boxes.  Upcoming events will take you to the calendar.  Recent News will include emails (like this one) for future reference. And the third is a link to the Solitude Village COA Facebook page.

We hope you find this a useful addition to our community.  Now, at your leisure, click the link below and take a look!  And set up a password.  And use the 'contact us' (Website Committee)  for any questions or comments about the site.

Presently the Okemo web site is not up to date with summer activities. We are working with the digital marketing team on the creative and up to date information.  It is expected that this will be live by May 27th. Guests can email okemoinfo@vailresorts.com or call our call center 228 – 1600 to get answers to questions about this coming summer.  There has been updated information on our social media sites.

Solitude Daylodge and Pool Update
Posted on Apr 10th, 2021 Comments (0)
Good Afternoon Solitude Village, Daylodge and Private Home Owners.

Spring has sprung and Okemo Mountain will be closing for skiing this Sunday April 4th .   While this is a little earlier than usual the upcoming Green Ridge and Quantum Chair Lift Upgrades slated for this summer will begin on Monday the 5th by plowing Mountain Road to have access to the summit to install the new  lift towers.  Such a large project requires every day available.

The Solitude Daylodge Pool will be closing on Sunday April 4th and Reopening on May 29th.   This decision was made for a number or reasons but mostly financial.  With State Covid Requirements we must have an attendant on at all times the pool is open almost doubling the normal summer cost to runt the pool when we could utilize the key card access.  Solitude Village, Daylodge and Private Home Owners may use the Spring House facilities at Jackson Gore – Reservations are required – Please call 802-228-1419 to make a reservation for the Pool or the Gym.

When I further information about Covid occupancy requirements for this summer I will send an update prior to reopening.

Thanks and have a great Spring !

Sincerely,
Lynn Reilly
